2018 Board of Directors

  • Sandy Zeznik

    President

    Sandy is a retired teacher and administrator who has always been a part of community activities. She was born and brought up in Vancouver and came to Cranbrook (a city she had never visited) to teach. Sandy taught for two years and then went on a year of travel, backpacking, and hitchhiking around Britain and Europe.

    Sandy returned to Cranbrook to continue teaching, married, and had 3 children, a girl and twin boys. She is now happy to be a grandmother and a community volunteer on a number of boards and working with many community nonprofits. Sandy loves to travel, hike, cross-country ski, and is an ardent dragon boater!

    The 55+ Games became another area to work with a great group of volunteers who are excited to see the games in our area bringing the two cities of Kimberley and Cranbrook together to make these games a great time for all!

  • Jaret Thompson

    President

    Husband, Father, Lifelong Learner, and serial entrepreneur. Jaret currently serves as the President Elect with the Kimberley Rotary club, on the School District Board of Education and with a Provincial Education based board. His current work includes consulting on management, operations, and change management. This also includes some technical work related to his deep experience with Valves and Automation.

  • Alan Rice

    Administration

    Al Rice works with BDO Canada LLP in Cranbrook and Kimberley.  Al sits on numerous not-for-profit boards and is actively involved in the community.  The BC 55+ Games interest him because they create engagement, healthy lifestyles and brings communities together to put on spectacular events.

  • Joanne Kitt

    Ceremonies

    Joanne is the owner of REMAX Caldwell Agencies Ltd. Joanne has been involved in the real estate industry and the communities of Cranbrook and Kimberley her entire life. Joanne was born and raised in Cranbrook but moved to Kimberley in 1987 and can’t imagine living anywhere else. She was the Director of Ceremonies for the 2008 Kimberley/Cranbrook BC Winter Games, and sits on the boards for CKDI and KDCF. Joanne was raised in a family of volunteers and has continued that tradition her entire life. The most exciting aspect of the 55+ BC Games is both the communities that are home to her have been working together to showcase this spectacular area!

  • David Cumming

    Communications

    David Cumming, Communications Director. From an early age I have spent my free time volunteering, being involved in all the communities where I have lived and serving on committees at the local, national & international level. I retired 20 years ago after a varied and rewarding career in the telephone industry spanning 32 years in B.C. & Alberta.

     

  • Kari Duffy

    Medical Service

    Kari Duffy is a wife, mother, and teacher in Cranbrook, BC. When she is not organizing medical supplies for the Games, she loves to spend time outside in the amazing area she lives in!

  • Laurie Goodlad

    Promotions

    Upon returning to Cranbrook in 2005 Laurie has volunteered in many organizations, most recent was as President of Cranbrook Rotary Club.  She is a Realtor with Re/Max blue Sky Realty and loves helping her clients find the right home for their family.

    In her position as Director of Promotions, she and her team are looking forward to showcasing Cranbrook and Kimberly.

  • Nella Rounsville

    Protocol

    Nella Rounsville was born in Trail, BC and moved to Cranbrook in 1979.

    Nella is very involved in the community and loves the Kootenay lifestyle.

    She is looking  forward to taking on the role of Director of Protocol for the 55+ BC Games.

  • Lorinda Nelson

    Special Events

    Lorinda is no stranger to the BC Games having taken part in nine BC Winter, Summer and Senior Games. She was the Director of Special Events for the 2008 Kimberley/Cranbrook BC Winter Games, in addition to holding the position of Operations Manager. Lorinda was the Kootenay Region Head Coach for Zone 1 figure skaters in Kamloops for the 2018 BC Winter Games, teaming with her daughter and coach Lori Nelson. Her three children have all been athlete participants in the BC Winter and Summer Games, positive experiences in their athletic activities over the years. Sport has always played a large role in Lorinda’s life, she has coached professionally for over twenty years and has been a Skate Canada Official for over twelve years. A former General Manager and Special Events Coordinator at the Cranbrook Recreation Complex, Lorinda returned to coaching three years ago as Head Coach/Administrator for the Cranbrook Skating Club. For the 2017-2018 season, Lorinda made a positive career move that took her to the Kimberley Skating Club where she shares her passion for the sport and works with an incredible group of skaters and parents. Lorinda is excited to once again serve as a Games Director and looks forward to working with Kimberley and Cranbrook volunteers to stage the 2018 Kimberley/Cranbrook 55+ BC Games.

Mel & Rick McFarlane

Sport

Melanie and Rick McFarlane both grew up in Peterborough, Ontario Ontario and after living in Kamloops, Calgary and Stoney Creek (ON) they have settled in the amazing East Kootenays for their retirement years. The couple have always enjoyed the opportunity to volunteer and love the community spirit in Cranbrook. Getting involved with Sam Steele Days, Hockeyville and Cranbrook Sunrise Rotary projects including the Gran Fondo and School Cycling program has helped them make many new friends and they are proud to call Cranbrook home. Retirement has also allowed more time for playing hockey, curling, golfing, cycling, slo-pitch, dragon boating and having fun with the grandkids.

The sport enthusiasts have taken on the role of Sport Director and look forward to teaming up with the Board of Directors, Sport Chairs and hundreds of Volunteers to provide all the Athletes with a well-organized, fun & friendly competition. Enjoy your time in this beautiful corner of BC!
