Special Events at the Kimberley/Cranbrook 2018 55+ BC Games

The Kimberley/Cranbrook Host Society has put together a wonderful array of events to keep you busy when you are not competing and to showcase the beautiful East Kootenays.

Games Village

Come for accreditation and stay for the fun at Games Village.  The Games Village will have an art and vendor market that will showcase local artisans and vendors. Participants can casually wander through the booths, pick up souvenirs and sample one of a kind, homemade fair while listening to local entertainers and performers.  Food and Beverage vendors will also be available.  What a great place to meet up with your friends and start your Games experience!

As a special gift, Kimberley Alpine Resort will be providing complimentary chair lift rides that take participants up 2,465 vertical feet to the top of the ski hill. Here you will witness the majesty of the Rocky and Purcell Mountain ranges as well as the beautiful surroundings of this area

(Please note while the Games Village opens at 2:00 pm, Accreditation does not open until 4:00pm.)

Opening Ceremonies

Join in on the pomp and circumstance of the open ceremonies of the Games.  The highlight of the ceremony is the march in of the Athletes.  The official torch lighting marking the beginning of the Games, visits by dignitaries and entertainment round out the official program.  Wear your Zone colours and share in the excitement.

Party in the Park

Nestled in the heart of Cranbrook’s downtown area Rotary Park is home to Spirit Square and the bandstand.  The bandstand will serve as a focal point for participants to gather and enjoy an exceptional line up of live music entertainers. There will be beverages available to quench everyone’s thirst as well as delicious food choices supplied by different vendors. Visitors and locals alike can spend the afternoon enjoying our Party in the Park!

Party in the Platzl

In the very heart of Kimberley’s downtown is the quaint and charming Platzl, a car-free walking area.  The focal point will be the entertainer’s bandstand.  Everything local will be celebrated for this afternoon, whether you are browsing in the shops unique to Kimberley, or enjoying the variety of cuisine on outdoor patios, play chess on a giant chess board or simply appreciate the German flare of the architecture, participants are sure to enjoy the afternoon entertainment and the Platzl’s ambience.

Casino Night in Kimberley!

For the adventurous and for those wanted to dance the night away why not try our Casino Royale Night.  Complete with gaming tables and prizes you can try your luck off of the sport field.  After you’ve exhausted your luck at the tables enjoy the lively atmosphere and dance to the tunes of the Testers in the main ballroom.  With an array of music totally geared to the 55 plus audience these guys will get you up on the dance floor no matter how tired your feet might be.

A Night on the Train, Cocktail Reception in Cranbrook

If you’re looking to meet up with friends in a quieter more intimate setting, the host society will be offering a Cocktail Reception at the Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort in conjunction with the Cranbrook History Centre.  At this railway themed location, you will be able to visit the Cranbrook History Centre and explore the Canadian Museum of Rail Travel to discover a big part of Cranbook’s heritage, sample some finger food and visit with others in the distinct and unique atmosphere.

Closing Ceremonies

Witness the passing of the batton from the Kimberley/Cranbrook Host Society to the Kelowna Host Society.  While we say goodbye and thank you to Kimberley/Cranbrook, we look forward to the road to Kelowna and the 2019 Games.
